Common Application: What Is the Common Application?

The Common Application, also known as the Common App is an undergraduate college admission application platform that applicants may use to apply to more than 1,000 member colleges and universities across all 50 U.S. states, and 20 countries such as in the District of Columbia, and also in China, Japan, Canada and many other European countries.

Over one million students, a third of whom are first-generation apply to college, research financial aid and scholarships, and connect to college counseling resources through Common App every year. But today, the pathway to higher education has changed. While everyone can go to college, not everyone does.

Now, to enable all students reach their perspective goals, the Common App has been design to:

  • Lower the logistical and systemic barriers to college access
  • Support those who support students
  • Serve a diverse group of students and institutions
  • Leverage data and insight to inform member institutions
