For all courses, whether taken full- or part-time, a maximum of five (Report 191 Business Studies) disciplines are permitted. This involves signing up for further exams. For all courses taken full-time, a maximum of five (Report 191 Engineering Studies) disciplines are permitted. For all courses taken on a part-time basis, a student may take a maximum of five topics (Mphohadi Campus) and a maximum of two subjects (Sasolburg Campus). This involves signing up for further exams. In one exam seating, a student may supplement a maximum of two subjects, according to Report 191.

A student may only retake the same topic twice on a full-time basis due to Flavius Mareka TVET College’s open access policy and the community’s urgent need to use the College. He or she will need to retake the subject(s) if they are unsuccessful the second time, and they won’t be able to enrol in a full-time course until they are successful. All students must attend class at least 80% of the time. Before a student can enter the test, they must acquire a sub-minimum year mark (as per DHET policy).

The Department will condone 38% and 39% in Report 191 programs to a pass symbol if it is the only subject that a student failed.
