The course follows the rules set by the Department of Higher Education and Training under the Report 191 program. To pass each subject, you need at least 40%. Students can only take subjects from two levels at a time. If you get between 30% and 39% in a subject, you may qualify to write a supplementary exam. But if your score is below 30%, you will need to repeat that subject either full-time or part-time.

Teaching Courses In Flavius Mareka 2026

These courses equip students with the skills needed to support young children’s development in settings such as early childhood development (ECD) centres, homes, communities, and other institutions. The qualifications also meet the standards set by the Department of Higher Education and Training. The following courses are offered:

  • N4 Educare

This is the entry-level course in the Educare stream. To apply, students must have a Grade 12 certificate with at least 40% in English.

  • N5 Educare

This level follows N4 Educare and is open to students who have completed the N4 course.

  • N6 Educare

This is the final level in the Educare programme. Students must have passed N5 Educare to be admitted. After completing N6 and gaining practical experience, students may apply for a National Diploma in Educare.

Flavius Mareka Teaching Course Qualifications In 2026

For all courses, whether taken full- or part-time, a maximum of five (Report 191 Business Studies) disciplines are permitted. This involves signing up for further exams. For all courses taken full-time, a maximum of five (Report 191 Engineering Studies) disciplines are permitted. For all courses taken on a part-time basis, a student may take a maximum of five topics (Mphohadi Campus) and a maximum of two subjects (Sasolburg Campus). This involves signing up for further exams. In one exam seating, a student may supplement a maximum of two subjects, according to Report 191.

A student may only retake the same topic twice on a full-time basis due to Flavius Mareka TVET College’s open access policy and the community’s urgent need to use the College. He or she will need to retake the subject(s) if they are unsuccessful the second time, and they won’t be able to enrol in a full-time course until they are successful. Message 191 Three times total (once on full-time and twice on part-time/supplemental) for each subject.

All students must attend class at least 80% of the time. Before a student can enter the test, they must acquire a sub-minimum year mark (as per DHET policy).

  • The Department will condone 38% and 39% in Report 191 programs to a pass symbol if it is the only subject that a student failed.
  • The other subjects have to be passed.
  • Application to the DHET is necessary to verify and approve the confinement.
  • Only two confinements are allowed per qualification by QCTO. (two for N1-N3; two for N4-N6)
  • Two confinements per qualification by QCTO (Two for N1 – N3 and Two for N4 – N6)

Students can supplement a subject only twice, after which the subject must be offered on a part-time basis.

Flavius Mareka Teaching Courses Admission Requirements 2026

N4

The N4 Educare course is offered at the Mphohadi and Sasolburg campuses. To apply, students need a Grade 12 certificate with a minimum of 40% in English.

  • Qualification and Subjects

Upon successful completion, students can earn an NC(V) Level 4 Certificate or an NQF Level 4 Early Childhood Development (ECD) Certificate. The course begins with N4 Intro subjects.

Promotion Criteria

  • Students who pass four subjects are fully promoted to N5 level.
  • Those who pass three subjects are also fully promoted to N5.
  • If a student passes only two subjects, there is no next level subject promotion.

Procedure for Failed Subjects

  • If a student scores 30% or more in the final exam and the year mark meets the minimum sub-mark of 40%, a supplementary examination is offered.
  • If the student scores 29% or less, they must enroll for the subject on a part-time basis.

N5

The N5 Educare course is available at the Mphohadi and Sasolburg campuses. To be eligible for admission, students must hold a National Certificate in N4 Educare.

Promotion Requirements

  • Students who pass four subjects are fully promoted to the N6 level.
  • Those who pass three subjects are also fully promoted to N6.
  • If only two subjects are passed, there is no promotion to the next level.

Procedure for Failed Subjects

Certification and Promotion

  • Students who pass four subjects will receive certification from the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET).
  • Students who pass three subjects continue without further promotion.
  • Those who pass only two subjects must repeat the failed subjects on a part-time basis.

Procedure for Failed Subjects

  • If a student scores 30% or more on the final exam and the year mark meets the sub-minimum requirement of 40%, a supplementary examination is offered.
  • Students scoring 29% or less must enroll for the subject on a part-time basis.

Additional Notes

  • The current pass mark set by the Department of Higher Education and Training for all subjects in Report 191 programs is 40%.
  • Students may only enroll in subjects at two consecutive levels at a time.
  • To qualify for a supplementary exam, students must achieve at least 30%. If less than 30% is obtained, the subject must be repeated full-time or part-time.
  • As this is the exit level (N6), students with only one subject remaining are allowed to register for that subject full-time.

Also, make sure to complete the college’s online application form.

Step 3: Lastly, complete the Online Application section and upload all required documents in PDF format.  Without finishing this step, we will not be able to process your application.
