University of Cambridge Postgraduate Application 2026/2027

The University of Cambridge offers a wide range of postgraduate programs for the 2026/2027 academic year, with applications opening in September 2025 and closing between December 2025 and January 2026, depending on the course. Studying for a postgraduate qualification at Cambridge can be both challenging and rewarding, giving students access to world-class teaching, research facilities, and academic support.

Applications for postgraduate programs typically open in September 2025 and close between December 2025 and January 2026, depending on the course. Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply as early as possible after researching their chosen program, funding opportunities, and the University’s requirements. It is important to note that application and funding deadlines may differ. Since funding applications are made through the same application form, you must submit your application by whichever deadline comes first to be considered for funding. Before applying, you should review the course page of your selected program to understand the entry requirements.

Admissions Tutors assess applications holistically, taking into account academic achievements, suitability for the course, English proficiency, relevant experience, references, and the availability of a suitable supervisor. Meeting the minimum academic requirements does not guarantee admission, as postgraduate entry is competitive and spaces are limited.
Applicants must submit separate applications for each course they wish to apply for and ensure all documents are completed in English using Latin script.

University of Cambridge Postgraduate Application Deadline 2026/2027

For postgraduate courses, Cambridge University advises all applicants to apply as early as possible after doing sufficient research into the course, the funding available, and the University as a whole. There are two deadlines you need to consider for your application:

1. Course Deadlines

  • All courses have a deadline beyond which applications cannot normally be considered. However, you should not wait until the day of the deadline to submit your application or supporting documents, as there is no guarantee that places will still be available at that point, and your application will be withdrawn if it is not complete by the deadline. Deadlines for submission are 11:59 pm (midnight) UK time on the stated date. Visit the course page of the courses you would love to study for the application deadline.

Note: Occasionally, deadlines for some subjects will be extended, so do check the deadline as you may still be able to apply even if an earlier deadline has passed. Deadlines can be found on the right-hand side of the course page.

 2. Funding Deadline:

  • Three main funding deadlines apply to all three terms in the academic cycle: Michaelmas 2024, Lent 2025, and Easter 2026: You will need to submit your application by 23:59 GMT on the day of the relevant funding deadline. These deadlines relate mainly to University and UKRI funds. Departmental and College funding may have different deadlines. Make sure you check these carefully and make a note of them.

University of Cambridge Postgraduate Application Requirements 2026/2027

The requirements specified below are the minimum requirements for postgraduate admission to the University. Some departments may set higher academic or language requirements:

Academic Requirements:

Postgraduate study at the University of Cambridge is intense and very intellectually demanding, so the University has high academic entry requirements. You are normally expected to hold or to have achieved by the start of your course:

  • minimum of a good upper second class (good 2:1) honors degree from a UK university or an equivalent standard from an overseas university; and
  • completion of, or intermission from, any current training or education course

To check if your international qualification meets the University’s minimum requirements, please consult the international section on the official website.

Note: You should be aware that meeting the University’s or departments’ minimum academic requirements does not guarantee entry; it is only one of the factors taken into account when academic selectors make their decision. Many other factors are also important, such as suitability for the course, proficiency in English, relevant experience, references, availability of a suitable supervisor, and the number of available places.

Financial Requirements:

  • Further information on fees, other costs, and funding can be found on the Finance pages. If you are made a conditional offer of admission, you will then need to confirm that you can meet your fees and living costs for the length of your course. However, if you already have funding for your study in place, you can provide details of this with your application.

College membership Requirements:

  • All applicants who are made a formal offer of admission will receive an offer of College membership. The University of Cambridge is a collegiate university, and all its students are required to be members of a College.

English language Requirements

  • All applicants are required to meet a minimum English language requirement before they are admitted to your proposed course of study. For more details, and to check whether we would require evidence from you, please check the Competence in English section of the website.

University of Cambridge Postgraduate Application Fee 2026/2027

For postgraduate programs, applicants need to pay a £50 application fee for each course they choose to apply for. Application fee waivers are offered. International applicants from specific countries automatically receive a waiver, while UK applicants, including refugees, may need to submit a waiver request before the deadline.
