Make sure you meet the entrance requirements and gather everything you need to apply before starting your undergraduate application. Students should apply for admission to a direct entry program if they have completed less than 24 credits of coursework at another school after attending university or college.

On the university website and in the admissions office, you can submit online applications and download application materials. Before submitting an online admissions application, all candidates are urged to carefully consider the entrance requirements and selection procedure in the Applicant Information Bulletin for their chosen faculty or school.

To allow enough time for the submission of supporting material and application processing, students are advised to submit their applications as early as possible. Before receiving a favorable admissions decision, students cannot register. Applications must be submitted before the deadline. Applications to this cycle will open in late August 2024.

Submitting your documents

While some documents can be delivered, others must be uploaded directly into your online application. The application includes detailed instructions for submission. Please make sure to send all required documents on time and in the manner requested. Please send any original hard copies you are sending through registered mail or courier to help prevent loss.

Once submitted, transcripts and other academic papers become the property of the university and cannot be requested back. Manitoba High School Students-General Entrance Requirements

Applicants must present Manitoba high school graduation, with successful completion of five full credits at the Grade 12 level, in courses designated S (Specialized), G (General), or U (Dual Credit – University).

The following certificates are usually accepted as equivalent to Manitoba high school standing and will, therefore, meet the university’s general entrance requirements for students from that region. University of Manitoba login

  • Alberta: High school graduation with five acceptable Grade 12 credits.
  • British Columbia: High school graduation with four acceptable Grade 12 credits.
  • New Brunswick: High school graduation with six acceptable Grade 12 credits.
  • Newfoundland: High school graduation with ten acceptable Grade 12 credits.
  • Northwest Territories: High school graduation with five acceptable Grade 12 credits.
  • Nova Scotia: High school graduation with five acceptable Grade 12 credits.
  • Nunavut: High school graduation with five acceptable Grade 12 credits.
  • Ontario: High school graduation with six Grade 12 U or M courses.
  • Prince Edward Island: High school graduation with five acceptable Grade 12 credits
  • Quebec: First-year CEGEP with satisfactory standing (normally a GPA of 2.0 or better or 65 percent or better).
  • Saskatchewan: High school graduation with five acceptable Grade 12 credits.
  • Yukon Territory: High school graduation with four acceptable Grade 12 credits.

English Language Proficiency Requirement

At the University of Manitoba, English is the language of instruction and communication. A candidate must therefore show that their command of the English language is sufficient to meet the requirements of classroom instruction, written assignments, and participation in tutorials and discussions if their first language is not English or if their previous education was in a language other than English.

Due to their upbringing and education in an English-speaking nation, English proficiency is assumed of Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and other individuals whose first language is English (country as determined by the Admissions Office). If you want to apply for a study permit from the University of Manitoba, you must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or international applicant. If English is not your first language, you must complete the requirements listed in the following section.

English Language Proficiency Options
Any applicant who is asked to demonstrate proficiency in the English language may do so by meeting any one of the following options:1

  • Achieve a minimum total score of 86 with a minimum of 20 in each component score on the internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT or TOEFL iBT Home Edition or TOEFL iBT Paper Edition).
  • Achieve minimum scores of 4.5 in Reading, 4.5 in Listening, and 4.0 in Writing on the Canadian Test of English for Scholars and Trainees (CanTEST).
  • Achieve a minimum overall score of 6.5 and a minimum score of 6.0 in each of the four modules (listening, reading, speaking, writing) on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic or IELTS Indicator.
  • Achieve a grade of 180 or higher on the Cambridge Assessment English: C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency.
  • Achieve a score of 60 or more on the Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL).
  • Achieve a minimum score of 58 on the Pearson Test of English (Academic).
  • Obtain a passing grade in the University of Manitoba’s English Language Center’s direct-entry English program, also known as the Academic English Program for University and College Entrance (AEPUCE) (or equivalent program at the University of Winnipeg or Red River College).
  • 30 unique (not duplicated), passed (D or higher), and at least 2.0 adjusted grade point average credits must be completed at the International College of Manitoba.
