University College Birmingham Undergraduate Application 2026/2027

There are several ways to apply for undergraduate courses at the University College Birmingham. UCB offers full-time, part-time, and online undergraduate courses, for which there are different application processes. If you are currently studying a Level 3 college course at University College Birmingham and would like to progress onto one of the university courses, please visit our Move Up to Uni page to apply.

For the September entry for undergraduate courses, the official UCAS deadline for UK and EU applicants to be guaranteed equal consideration is the 29th of January. They can consider applications from non-UK/EU applicants up to August. University College Birmingham does not close the application system after January. All applications received after this date will be considered and responded to.

To apply for all undergraduate degrees, you will need to sit an approved test in English if it is not your first language. This may include achieving an IELTS (Academic or UKVI) score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in any band, depending on your course requirements. In addition, UCB accepts the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) 72 with minimum band scores of Reading 18, Writing 17, Listening 17, and Speaking 20 for Undergraduate (BA, BSc) and most postgraduate degrees.

University College Birmingham Application Dates 2026/2027

Prospective learners are to take note of the following application dates and deadlines. Late applications will only be accepted if there are unoccupied spaces to be filled, but if not, then no application will be accepted after the application deadline.  The following is the application deadline for the various semesters  for the 2026/2027 academic year at the University College of Birmingham:

University College Birmingham Undergraduate Application Requirements 2026/2027

For every undergraduate course offered at the University College Birmingham, there are entry requirements attached to it. The UCAS scores needed for acceptance vary from course to course, but for most courses, a minimum of 80-96 UCAS points is required.

  • Qualifications in the UCAS Tariff that are accepted by the university include A-levels, T-levels, BTECs, and Access to Higher Education Diplomas.
  • For students who don’t meet those entry requirements, many of the university’s courses can be studied as a foundation degree (FdA or FdSc). These have much lower entry requirements, typically needing a minimum of 32-56 UCAS points.
  • For students applying for BA top-up courses, an HND or foundation degree in a relevant subject is required.
  • The university also accepts qualifications that may not be included in the UCAS Tariff (including NVQ qualifications), while students without any formal qualifications are also encouraged to apply if they have a minimum of three years of relevant work experience.

English language entry requirements:

To apply for all undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, you will need to sit an approved test in English if it is not your first language. This may include achieving an IELTS (Academic or UKVI) score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in any band, depending on your course requirements. In addition, they accept the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) 72 with minimum band scores of Reading 18, Writing 17, Listening 17, and Speaking 20 for Undergraduate (BA, BSc) and most postgraduate degrees.

  • If you are applying for the International Foundation Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism, you will need a UKVI IELTS of 5.0 with no less than 4.5 in any band.
  • IELTS can be taken from the British Council. Please note that the date of your IELTS award must be within two years of your degree/master’s degree start date.

UCB also accepts the following online tests for entry into degree-level courses:

  • TOEFL (iBT) Home – minimum scores as above
  • Language Cert – a minimum of ‘pass’ at B2 level
  • IELTS Indicator – minimum scores as above

Applying For A UCB Undergraduate Course Through UCAS:

For the September entry, the official UCAS deadline for UK and EU applicants to be guaranteed equal consideration is January. UCAS can consider applications from non-UK/EU applicants up to August.

The application fee for UCAS applications in 2026 will be £28.50 for up to five choices.

University College Birmingham does not close the application system after January. All applications received after this date will be considered and responded to.

If you would like to apply for more than one university, then you must apply through UCAS. This service is available to Home, EU, and Overseas applicants. In addition, University College Birmingham offers support workshops for applicants applying for Higher Education who are not familiar with the UCAS process.

Apply Direct:

UCB Direct allows prospective students who are interested in applying for September 2024 to apply directly (free of charge) without having to complete lengthy and sometimes complex application forms.

To apply directly to University College Birmingham, you must satisfy the following criteria:

  • You only wish to apply to University College Birmingham (if you would like to apply to more than one institution, you must apply via UCAS)
  • You must not have previously applied via UCAS this year (we will complete this on your behalf)

Follow the steps below to apply for 2026-2027;

Decide How You Want to Apply

  • UCAS: Best if you are applying to more than one university. You can choose up to five courses and pay a single application fee.
  • Direct to UCB: Ideal if UCB is your only choice. It is free, quick, and you usually get a response within 48 hours.

Gather Your Information and Documents

  • Details of your qualifications and grades (e.g., A-Levels, BTECs).
  • A reference from a teacher or employer.
  • Your structured answers (which replace the old personal statement starting in 2026).
  • For international students: proof of English language ability, such as IELTS results.

Complete Your Application

  • UCAS Route: Create an account on the UCAS website, fill in your details, choose your courses, upload your reference, and submit your structured answers.
  • Direct to UCB: Fill in UCB’s online application form and submit the required documents. UCB will send your application to UCAS for you if needed.

Submit Before the Deadline

  • Most courses: 25 January 2026.
  • Medicine, dentistry, veterinary, and Oxbridge: 15 October 2025.
  • Late applications may still be accepted until around August, especially for international students.

Wait for a Decision

  • UCAS applicants usually hear back by mid-May 2026.
  • Direct applicants often get a reply within two days.

Respond to Your Offer

  • If you receive an offer, confirm your place and complete any additional steps, such as providing final exam results or paying deposits (for international students).
