You should also make sure that you meet any subject-specific requirements by using the course finder. Below are the admission entry requirements for undergraduate courses offered at Brighton University:

The UCAS tariff:

  • The UCAS tariff is a points system that translates different types of qualifications into one format so that different types and volumes of achievement can be compared. It enables admissions tutors to take into account the breadth of qualifications. UCAS tariff points obtained from Level 3 Key Skills will count towards an offer for most of our courses.
  • BU does not accept Level 2 Key Skills in numeracy and literacy for entry to our courses in place of GCSEs. Although they are pitched at the same level as GCSE grades A-C on the national qualifications framework, they do not cover the full breadth of knowledge demanded by GCSEs.

BTEC Diploma qualifications:

  • The entry requirements for BTEC Qualifications vary depending on the course. An offer for a place on a course may require a particular combination of grades such as Merit or Distinction and this may include a specified subject such as health or art and design
  • At Brighton, they welcome applicants studying BTEC National Diploma courses. They have recognized that BTEC Diploma qualifications provide students with the essential study skills and subject knowledge required to successfully progress onto degree courses.

International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma:

  • BU welcomes applications from students studying for the International Baccalaureate Diploma. The breadth and depth of study afforded by the qualification are excellent preparation for studying for a degree in higher education.
  • The opportunity to complete an extended essay provides a good foundation for the independent study and research elements of your degree. Entry requirements for each course can be found on the course finder. For some courses, BU will consider applicants with standalone components of the IB course, such as three Higher-level Diploma subjects.

T-level:

A typical offer from Brighton University will be to achieve a Merit as this is the closest match to the standard entry requirement. One T-level is the same size as three full A-levels. You may be awarded any of these grades:

  • Distinction (AAA /144 UCAS tariff points)
  • Merit (BBB / 120U CAS tariff points)
  • Pass with C or higher in your core component (CCC / 96UCAS tariff points)
  • Pass with D or E in your core component (DDD / 72 UCAS tariff points).

GCSE equivalency tests:

  • If you do not have GCSEs and the course you are interested in has a mandatory GCSE requirement, BU accepts Functional Skills instead as long as they are passed at Level 2. This is considered comparable to a GCSE at grade C/4.
