If you are planning to study at one of Canada’s top universities, the University of Alberta is now accepting applications for the 2026–2027 academic year. The admissions process for Fall 2026 is currently open, and the application deadline for all undergraduate programs in most faculties is March 1, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. MDT, unless otherwise stated by the faculty offering your chosen program. Applying early gives you time to submit all required documents, apply for scholarships, and prepare for a smooth start to your university journey.
If you are interested in graduate studies, the University of Alberta recommends starting the process up to one year before your intended start date. There are three basic steps: choosing a program, reviewing the admission requirements, and submitting your application online. Research-based programs may also require you to connect with a potential supervisor before applying. University of Alberta Application Deadlines 2026-2027
Admissions for the M.Ed. program have two deadlines: October 1 and March 1. The application deadline for the doctorate program (EdD, Ph.D.) is December 1st.
Four academic periods make up the academic year, which runs from September to August. There are four entrance dates for the master’s program.
There is just one entrance date for the doctoral program.
2026-2027 University of Alberta Application Fee
You must pay an application fee of either $75 (for repeat applicants to the University of Alberta) or $125 (for new applicants) (for current or previous University of Alberta students).
There is no reimbursement for this application cost. Please be aware that the application fee varies for professional program applications; you may find out more on their website.
University of Alberta Admission 2026-2027 Requirements
All undergraduate admissions at the University of Alberta are competitive and based on space availability. You must fulfil both the general requirements and the requirements particular to your desired program(s) to be considered for admission.

- Course Requirements
Five specific Grade 12 topics, which vary by program but always include English 30-1, are prerequisites for all undergraduate programs that provide direct entry from high school (or the equivalent in your province).

- English Language Proficiency
To be considered for admission, all undergraduate applicants must have a sufficient level of English Language Proficiency (ELP). Spoken English Proficiency (SEP) may also be necessary in some circumstances. (French Language Proficiency is required for French-language programs.)
The majority of Canadian candidates will automatically satisfy the ELP criterion if they have completed at least three years of full-time English-language schooling in Canada. If not, there are several ways to prove ELP, including TOEFL and IELTS exam results.
- Other Requirements
A portfolio, an audition, or a written statement are some of the additional prerequisites for some programs.

How To Apply to the University of Alberta 2026-2027
To apply on campus, please complete the form. Students applying for admission, readmission, or an internal transfer at the University of Alberta must complete a single application form. There are two ways to apply:
- Online:
This is the recommended method. It is faster, more secure, and allows students to pay the application fee electronically. You can apply through the Undergraduate Admissions & Programs page.
- PDF Format:
A downloadable PDF version of the Application for Admission is available on the same website. Students can print, fill it out, and submit a physical copy.
Keep in mind that applications will not be accepted after the published deadlines. You can find these under the Admission and Readmission Deadlines section. Each application requires a non-refundable processing fee, which must be paid for your application to be considered.
Online applications are not submitted successfully until the payment is completed. The university does not offer fee waivers and strictly enforces this payment policy. If you are applying as a nonmatriculated applicant, you must follow the same deadlines set for high school applicants. Check the Nonmatriculated Applicants section and your intended faculty’s admission requirements for specific details.
Applications are only valid for the term they are submitted (either Fall/Winter or Spring/Summer). Admission decisions apply only to that specific term. If you defer or decide not to attend, you will need to submit a new application and pay the fee again. Students who only wish to audit courses must complete a Course Audit form in person at the Office of the Registrar and follow the Academic Schedule.
