Applications for Health Sciences, Architecture, Audiology, Speech-Language Pathology, and Film and Television programmes will close on 30 June 2025, while applications for all other programmes and residence applications will close on 30 September 2025.

All prospective students must complete and submit their application online through the official website at www.wits.ac.za. Applications must be submitted using the WITS online application form for 2026 before the specified closing dates. WITS University will not accept any late applications for 2026, so it is important to apply on time.

WITS 2026 Application Deadlines

Make sure to submit your application before the deadline. The closing dates depend on the programme you are applying for:

30 June 2025


Applications close for the following programmes:

  • All Health Sciences programmes
  • Bachelor of Architectural Studies
  • Bachelor of Audiology
  • Bachelor of Speech-Language Pathology
  • Bachelor of Arts in Film and Television

30 September 2025


Applications close for:

  • All other undergraduate programmes
  • University residence applications

WITS Online Application Fee 2025-2026

Below are the application fees required:

  • Non-refundable application fee of R100 for South African citizens
  • Non-refundable application fee for foreign citizens of R700
  • Payments are to be made before the closing dates

The University of the Witwatersrand (WITS) Admission Qualification 2026-2027

Applicants planning to study at the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS) must meet the following minimum admission entry requirements before he/she will be accepted into the university for the 2026-2027 academic cycle

Meeting the requirements does not guarantee a place. Final selection is made subject to the availability of places, academic results and other entry requirements where applicable.

  • National Senior Certificate (NSC), Independent Examinations Board (IEB), or South African Comprehensive Assessment Institute (SACAI) subjects
  • Applicants are required to write the National Benchmark Tests (NBT) before being considered for admission
  • A National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4 with three fundamental subjects between 60 – 69% OR three vocational subjects from the designated list between 70-79%
  • Taken English as either a language of learning and teaching or as the first additional language
  • Taken Mathematics as a fundamental component
  • Achieved 70-79% for all seven subjects – in fundamental and vocational categories.

Required Documents for WITS Online Application 2026-2027

Please, all applicants applying to study at WITS University for the 2026-2027 academic year must upload the following supporting documents during the application process:

If you are currently in Grade 12:

  • Final Grade 11 results
  • Final Grade 12 results (when they become available)

Also, If you have already completed school:

  • Matric certificate
  • Academic transcripts (if you have studied at another institution)
  • Degree certificates (if applicable)
  • A certified copy of your identity document or passport

If you are an international applicant:

  • School leaving certificate and final results
  • SAQA certificate (if required)
  • Proof of English proficiency (if your previous studies were not in English)

Some programmes may also request:

  • A curriculum vitae (CV)
  • A personal statement
  • A portfolio (for creative programmes)
  • Health clearance (for Health Science programmes)

How to Apply for the MUS Degree at WITS

If you are applying for the MUS degree at WITS, please take note that a compulsory assignment must be completed and submitted as part of your application. It is recommended that you read the assignment brief before starting your application. Follow the Step-by-Step Application Process:

Apply Online

  • Go to www.wits.ac.za/applications to apply.
  • If you are currently a WITS student, apply through the Student Self-Service Portal.
  • If you are not currently enrolled at WITS, select ‘Step 1’ on the applications page to create a temporary number. This will help you set up a profile and apply online.

Prepare and Upload Your Documents

You will need the following documents to complete your application:

  • Certified copies of your academic records and qualification certificates. You can upload scanned versions now, but hard copies must be submitted if you are accepted.
  • SAQA Certificate (for international qualifications): If your degree is from outside South Africa, apply for a SAQA certificate at www.saqa.org.za. This process takes time, so start early. Upload a scanned copy now, and submit the original hard copy if accepted.
  •  Your CV, especially if you have work experience. Include job titles, responsibilities, and timelines.
  • Typed compulsory assignment. You can find the instructions in the assignment brief below. Applications without this will not be considered.
  •  Proof of payment of the R200 application fee (WITS students are exempt).
  • Copy of your ID (if South African) or passport (if international).
  • Proof of English proficiency, if your previous studies were not in English. Upload a scanned copy now and submit a certified paper copy if admitted.

Submit Your Application

Once you have filled in all the information and uploaded your documents, submit your application. You must see a confirmation screen saying: “Thank you for submitting your application to the University.”

After Submission

You will receive a confirmation email the next day listing the programme(s) you applied for. If not, contact the WITS Student Call Centre at +27 11 717 1888.

  • Make sure all your documents, including the assignment, have been uploaded. Your status will show as “complete” on the self-service portal if everything is in order.
  • Only complete applications will be reviewed by the selection committee.
  • If accepted, you will get an offer letter via the portal. Keep checking it for updates.

Submit Certified Hard Copies

If accepted, you must provide certified hard copies of your:

  • Academic transcripts and certificates
  • SAQA evaluation (if applicable)
  • Proof of English proficiency (if applicable)
