2025-2026 applications are now open at the Mangosuthu University of Technology. To apply for the class of 2024–2025 at the Mangosuthu University of Technology, fill out the online form. This is a more straightforward method of submitting applications for several programs using a single application form and a single application fee. When paying the application cost, be sure to use your special CAO number as a reference. We suggest that prospective students make MUT their first option.
You can get application forms from the CAO website at www.cao.ac.za. You can also apply online by visiting www.cao.ac.za, selecting the “Apply” link, selecting “Apply Now,” and then following the simple instructions. On the CAO application form, a tear-off slip contains the CAO number. All applicants have access to the online application.

Important closing dates:
- Faculty of Engineering – first semester applications – 30 September
- Faculty of Engineering – second-semester applications – 31 May
- Faculty of Natural Sciences – 30 September
- Analytical Chemistry – second-semester applications – 31 May
- Faculty of Management Sciences – 30 September
A late application fee set by the CAO is applied to applications filed after September 30.

- Transferring students from other colleges must present their official academic transcripts and a certificate of good behavior.
NON-SOUTH AFRICAN APPLICANTS
- A valid study permit
- A valid medical aid/health insurance cover
- A valid passport
- GCE, GCSE, IGCSE, or Cambridge School Certificate
- If three topics were passed at the same examination sitting, students holding a GCE GCSE IGCSE or a Cambridge School Certificate must have passed five recognized ordinary-level subjects, including the English language.

Admission Requirements
According to the prospective student’s top five subjects, each faculty establishes entrance requirements based on a point total.
In addition to the points system, certain departments require applicants to take an entrance exam.
Due to a shortage of available spots, not all applicants who match the minimum qualifications can be accepted.
The most competent candidates and those who chose MUT as their first or second choice are given priority during the selection process.
Minimum Entrance Requirements
- Passing the National Senior Certificate with a diploma or the N3 with 50% in English and Mathematics
- A minimum of 5 subjects at level 4 or higher, or level 3 for access courses, are required.
- Pass level 4 in either English as a First Language or as a Second Language.

- Minimum points required by faculty, as noted in the CAO manual
