Welcome to the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences online application for the academic year 2024–2025. The Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University SMU Online Application window for admission into undergraduate credentials (higher certificates, advanced certificates, diplomas, and degrees), Honors degrees, and postgraduate diplomas, as well as Master’s and doctorate qualifications, is now open.

You must submit an application online at the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University if you want to be considered for admission to one of the university’s undergraduate or graduate programs. The application window is open for first-time applicants to Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University, students switching to a new degree or specialization, applicants who previously applied for admission but were not offered a space or who were offered a space but accepted the offer but did not register, and students who have completed a higher certificate or any other program and who wish to continue with further undergraduate studies

  • By submitting this application, you grant the University permission to process your personal information and the right to check the submitted information. In contrast, the University is dedicated to abiding by the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPI) No. 4 of 2013 and to making sure that any submitted personal information is only used for that reason.
  • The application needs to be accurately and completely filled out.
  • The names must match those on your identity or passport paper.
  • You may only apply for two different study options. Your first pick will be the first qualification you select, and your second choice will be the second qualification you select. You should choose the qualification name and code from the offered “List of Values.”
  • You should only fill out the residence area if you intend to live in the university residence.
  • You must pay the R200.00 non-refundable application fee. When making a payment, provide your student or ID number as a reference.
  • Because it won’t be feasible to submit your application after the closing dates, you are recommended to apply before those days.

  • Certified copies of your academic record and degree certificate(s) (if you attended or are currently a student at SMU or another university).
  • Certified copy of your marriage certificate (if applicable).

POST GRADUATE (PG) Applicants:

  • Students submit an online application and fill out an enrollment form for recommendations.

  • You must email the completed enrolment form for each PG choice to postgrad.studies@smu.ac.za together with your completed online applications for your first and second selections;
  • You simply need to fill out the enrollment form for each Post Graduate decision and send it to postgrad.studies@smu.ac.za for the third and subsequent choices of Post Graduate qualifications.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • If you haven’t sent in all the necessary paperwork indicated above, your application won’t be processed.
  • Unfortunately, your application will not be taken into consideration if the necessary documents are not submitted within the permitted two-month time.
  • Meeting the requirements does not guarantee admission, as the university receives more applications than it can accept.
  • Admission to study at SMU does not guarantee a seat in residence because there are only a limited number of housing spaces available. The University is not required to offer a place in the residence; instead, the spots are given out on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Prior to enrolling as a student, all non-South African nationals and temporary residents must get study permission. Applications for study visas should be sent to the South African Home Affairs, Consulate, or High Commissioner in your place of origin or residence. The visa will be given in Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University’s favor and must be submitted at the time of registration.
