UWaterloo Effective Dates for Undergraduate Studies 2026-2027
When curriculum changes are made, they take effect based on specific effective dates, the date when the new or updated curriculum officially becomes active. These dates are usually set for the future. In the Kuali Curriculum Management (CM) system:
- The allowed effective dates are shown in the “Important Information” section at the top of each proposal form. It’s important that anyone submitting a proposal reads this before moving forward.
Here are some key points to keep in mind about effective dates:
Revision vs. New Version:
- If you select Revision, you cannot change the effective date on the form. Changing it would overwrite existing content.
- If you select New Version, you must update the effective date on the form. If you choose the same date as before, you will get a validation error.
- All proposals must be for the upcoming academic calendar publication.
- For example, if the next calendar is for 2026–2027, all proposals should have a fall 2026 effective date.
- You cannot submit proposals for Fall 2027 until the Fall 2025 term when the system opens for that cycle.
- Every proposal needs to have a fall term effective date. The academic calendar is published once a year, and courses and academic plans are often connected to this timing.
- Other terms might appear in the system because Kuali CM is also used for graduate studies, which publishes calendars term by term.
- The effective date must always be set in the future according to the applicable dates chart.
- If you need to make minor corrections (like fixing typos or broken links) to a published calendar, you must contact the Office of the Registrar before submitting your proposal.
- Retroactive changes must also be approved by the Registrar’s office in advance, but even if approved, these changes will not appear in past published calendars.
