Nelson Mandela University (NMU) Online Application 2026-2027
The NMU Online Application portal for 2025–2026 will officially open in April 2024, inviting applications from prospective undergraduate, postgraduate, and international students. All applications must be submitted online through the official website at www.nmu.ac.za before the published closing dates. Applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible and ensure that all required documents are uploaded with their online forms.
To be considered for admission, you must meet the minimum entry requirements based on the National Senior Certificate (NSC) or an equivalent school-leaving certificate, depending on the level of the qualification, whether it is a higher certificate, diploma, or degree. It is important to understand that applying does not guarantee admission. Every application is reviewed according to NMU’s official admissions policy. The university’s Admissions Office will communicate the outcome of your application directly, either via the online portal or SMS.
Whether you are applying for your first degree or planning to continue your studies at a postgraduate level, NMU offers a wide range of programs and a supportive academic environment. Starting your application early and following all instructions carefully will give you the best chance of securing a place for the 2026-2027 academic year.

NMU Application Dates for 2026-2027
These dates apply to all prospective undergraduate, postgraduate, and international students applying online. Application for admission to Nelson Mandela University (NMU) for the 2026 academic year will be open in April 2025 and close on:
- 30 June 2025
Deadline for applications to the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB), Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm), and Bachelor of Radiography in Diagnostics (BRad) programs.
- 01 August 2025
Closing date for early applications to all other programs (excluding MBChB, BPharm, and BRad).
- 30 September 2025
Final deadline for late applications (excluding MBChB, BPharm, and BRad).
- 30 September 2025
Closing date for international student applications, also excluding MBChB, BPharm, and BRad.
- Student Accommodation Applications
Applications for on-campus and off-campus student housing close on 30 September 2025.
- International Applicants
International students applying for any program except MBChB, BPharm, and BRad must submit their applications by 30 September 2025.
NB: You must submit your application form along with all the required supporting documents before the initial closing date. Incomplete applications, including those missing documents, will not be considered. Late applications will, however, only be considered after this date, based on academic merit, until the September closing date. Places for some qualifications are limited, and it is therefore in your best interest to submit your application early.
2026 NMU Application Fee
An application fee of R500 is required for international submissions.

Documents Required for NMU Online Application 2026-2027
Upload the following supporting documents when submitting your application for admission to NMU for 2025:
- Certified copy of your final Grade 11 exam results
- Certified copy of your most recent Grade 12 (June/Sept) exam results (no March results)
- Certified copy of your matriculation certificate/statement of results if you have already passed Grade 12/completed schooling,
- Certified copies of your diploma/degree certificates plus academic record(s) and certificate(s) of conduct if you have studied elsewhere
- Certified copy of your ID (birth certificate if still waiting for ID)
- Certified copy of the identity document of your parent/legal guardian/surety,
- A declaration by parent / legal guardian/surety if you are a dependant, currently at school, studying at a tertiary institution, or have recently left school and do/will not have permanent employment when applying or studying at the University.
- Go to the NMU website at www.mandela.ac.za
- Click “Study@Mandela” at the top left menu of the page
- Scroll down and click the “Application” link
- If you have decided what you want to study, scroll down
- Click on “Apply online: Prospective Undergraduate students”
- Read the online application instructions and click “APPLY ONLINE”
- A new application page will be open for you
- Carefully read the Important Information and scroll down
- Then, click on the “Apply Online Now” link to start the process
- Answer the following questions and proceed
- Please enter your ID number to continue to authenticate and validate your application
- Fill out the online application form with your details as requested
- Complete and submit your application for evaluation
NB: You will be informed of the outcome of your application through the NMU website and via SMS. Please make sure your cell phone number on record is correct and up to date. If your application is successful, you will receive an orientation guide and registration details during November or December. Please note that final acceptance is subject to:
- Your final school-leaving results meet the minimum admission requirements for your chosen program, or
- The submission of your final academic record and a certificate of conduct if you are currently studying at another institution.
