The application period for online admission to Western Cape university for this academic year is now open.
Information on how to apply online, documentation requirements, an online application form, courses available for both undergraduate and graduate studies, an online prospectus, housing details, and contact details for the Western Cape are listed below and provided on the mentioned website portal.
You will be able to apply for admission and pay your fees using the application system. There is a forum available at the institution where you can ask questions and get answers from faculty members and other students. We appreciate that you choose the University of the Western Cape! By the deadlines, all applications must be submitted online with all relevant supporting documents uploaded.

Important Note
- To apply online, candidates must have a valid email address. An email will be used for all correspondence from the university regarding your application. If you don’t have a valid email address, you can set one up using Gmail, Yahoo Mail, or any other email service provider you like.

Applicants will only be chosen among those who get study offers from the university based on placement standards and space availability (not all applicants who have been made an offer to study can be accommodated).

General Criteria for Admission to the University
Criteria for Admission to Bachelor’s Programs: A National Senior Certificate (NSC) with an accomplishment rating of 4 (Adequate achievement, 50-59%) or better in four courses selected from the following recognized 20-credit NSC subjects (referred to as the “designated subject list”), as validated by Umalusi, is the minimum entry requirement.
Diploma Admission Criteria: A National Senior Certificate with an accomplishment level of 3 (moderate achievement, 40–49%) or better in four recognized NSC 20-credit subjects, as certified by Umalusi, is the requirement for admission.
Admission requirements for higher certificates: A National Senior Certificate issued by Umalusi is the requirement for admission.

Document required
Post-Matric Learners
If you have already taken the NSC exam, you must provide the following:
- Certified copy of your NSC certificate or Senior Certificate
- Certified copy of your identification document
- Proof of any studies with academic records, if applicable, you may have completed
- If applicable, proof that you are currently improving your NSC results
- In an affidavit a brief description of activities post-matric/NSC
Rewriting applicants will have their applications processed based on the most recent grade 12 results. If you took Grade 12 more than once, you must submit your combined results together with your application.
Transfer Students
If you are applying from another college or university, you must submit certified copies of the following documents:
- NSC Certificate or Senior Certificate
- Identification document
- Certificate of good conduct from your institution
- Official Academic Transcript
- Module content / Yearbook descriptor from your institution for all modules completed
- Degree certificate (if applicable)

International Students
- Universities South Africa (USAF) must receive your final academic results for review.
- Use the following link to submit an application for exemption to Universities South Africa (USAF), previously Higher Education South Africa (HESA): https://mbit-application.usaf.ac.za/assessment/.
- Unfortunately, until you submit a confirmation letter from USAF certifying that you are eligible to study at a South African university, the institution will not be able to respond to your application.

How to apply online
- To apply online click here. There is a limit of TWO program choices that you can apply for.
- Acknowledgment Of Application: You will receive an email from the university upon the completion of the online application form acknowledging receipt of your application.
- Upload Supporting Documentation: Visit http://studentdocumentupload.uwc.ac.za/, fill out the form and upload the necessary papers to submit supporting documentation.
- Offer To Study: Successful candidates will be contacted via email with a definite reservation and details on registration and orientation.
