University of Limpopo Application Dates for 2026

General Admission Requirements – University of Limpopo 2026-2027
To be considered for undergraduate studies at the University of Limpopo (UL), applicants must meet specific academic requirements based on their qualifications. Below is a breakdown of the general admission criteria:
National Senior Certificate (NSC) – With Bachelor’s Pass
Applicants who completed the NSC must meet the following minimum requirements:
- A Bachelor’s pass with at least four 20-credit subjects at a minimum achievement level of 4 for degree programmes.
- A minimum achievement level of 3 for Life Orientation.
- At least level 3 in English, which is the language of teaching and learning at UL.
- The minimum Admission Point Score (APS) required by the specific faculty and programme (as listed in the UL Faculty Calendars).
- For diploma programmes, a minimum achievement level of 3 in four 20-credit subjects is required.
Please note: Meeting the minimum APS does not guarantee admission. Final selection is based on space availability and faculty criteria.
Senior Certificate (Before 2008)
- Applicants who completed Grade 12 before 2008 may apply using the traditional Senior Certificate, provided they obtained full university exemption. Grades must be converted to the APS system to determine eligibility.
National Certificate Vocational (NC(V)) Level 4
Applicants with an NC(V) Level 4 qualification must meet the following:
For degree programmes:
- A Level 4 certificate with three fundamental subjects, including Life Orientation, passed with at least 60%, and
- Four relevant vocational subjects passed with a minimum of 70%.
For diploma programmes:
- A Level 4 certificate with three fundamental subjects, including Life Orientation, passed with at least 50%, and
- Three vocational subjects passed with a minimum of 60%. Admission for NC(V) holders is also subject to faculty-specific requirements and placement tests.
UL International Students – Admission Requirements
International applicants are welcome to apply for undergraduate programmes at UL. To be considered, they must:
- Qualify for Matriculation Exemption from the South African Matriculation Board (USAf).
- Meet the University of Limpopo’s English language requirements.
- Satisfy the minimum admission requirements of the faculty and programme they are applying to.
- Note that the medium of instruction at UL is English.
Minimum Qualifications for Admission
- A Matriculation Exemption or successful completion of both O and A-level exams.
- If only O-levels or IGCSE have been completed, applicants should first complete at least one year of study at a university in their home country before applying to UL.
- After this, they can apply for a foreign conditional exemption from USAf (formerly HESA).
- Applicants who completed their high school or tertiary education outside South Africa must obtain a qualification evaluation certificate from USAf before applying.
Study Visa and Medical Aid Requirements
Before registering (or renewing registration), all international students must present:
