Most postgraduate degree programmes At Aberdeen University start in September of each academic year, however, several programmes now also have a January start date. Applicants are advised to make sure they select their preferred start date when filling out the application form. The course the student is studying and its duration determines the fees that need to be paid.

When the Aberdeen University admission team is done processing your application, an admission offer will be sent to the applicant. Once applicants receive an offer of placement at the International Study Centre, to secure your place you will need to return a signed acceptance form and a confirmation payment of £260 enrolment Fee (non-refundable).

An international student starting an undergraduate Master of Arts in Business Management in September is to pay the total cost of tuition for a four-year degree is £79,200. In line with Aberdeen University, tuition fees are subject to annual review and the University reserves the right to routinely increase these from year to year. Unless you are on a fixed fee programme, you should budget for an increase of between 5% and 9% per annum.

In addition to tuition fees, students will require money to cover their living costs including accommodation, food, books, entertainment, clothing, phone bills, local travel, and laundry. These expenses will vary depending on your lifestyle and spending habits. In keeping with UKVI rules, we recommend that students budget £1,023 per month to cover their living costs.

After a postgraduate applicant is done choosing his/her Pre-Masters pathway at the International Study Centre, what follows is to know about the fees required of you to pay:

When to Pay The Postgraduate Application And Tuition Fees

Once applicants have received an offer of placement at the International Study Centre, to secure your place you will need to return a signed acceptance form and a confirmation payment. The confirmation payment consists of:

  • £260 Enrolment Fee (non-refundable)
  • £1,000 Deposit
  • Insurance payment for Study Care Insurance Plus if applicable
  • Upon receipt of your signed acceptance form and the confirmation payment, the university will send you your confirmation pack and your Student Statement document.
  • Before enrolment, and before you apply for your Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies ‘CAS’, you will also need to pay in advance tuition fees as set out in the offer letter.
  • No later than 28 days before your programme start date, and before arrival at the Centre, you will be required to pay:
  • The balance of the tuition fees along with the accommodation fees (if applicable) is set out on your individualised payment plan in your offer letter.
  • After arriving at the centre the remaining balance of your tuition fees for any remaining terms can be paid 28 days before the start date of the second academic term, or in full in advance. For full information about fees and refunds read our Terms and Conditions.

Postgraduate Application and  tuition fees differ depending on the program offered and the duration of the course:

Pre-Master Program

  • Business and Law – £11,500
  • Science and Engineering – £12,500

Pre- Sessional English

  • 10 weeks – £4,500
  • 5 weeks – £2,750

Additional Fees

  • StudyCare Insurance Plus – £416 (£8.00 per week)
  • StudyCare Insurance Plus (24-month cover) – £650 (£6.25 per week)
  • Airport transfer fees from Aberdeen International Airport – £50 (one-way)

Postgraduate Research Degree

An international student starting an arts-based Doctor of Philosophy Degree (PhD) in International Relations in September would pay their tuition fees as follows:

  • Year 1 – £17,900
  • Year 2 – £17,900 (no increase in fees)
  • Year 3 – £17,900 (no increase in fees)

The total cost of tuition for a three-year research degree is £53,700.

Determining Your Fee Status

As soon as Aberdeen University receives your application for admission, you will have to provide information that will help the university to determine your fee status. Should Aberdeen require further information, they will contact you. If you currently live overseas and you do not hold the UK, you will likely be classified as an International Fees student.

Minimum Cost of Living

In addition to tuition fees, students will require money to cover their living costs including accommodation, food, books, entertainment, clothing, phone bills, local travel, and laundry. These expenses will vary depending on your lifestyle and spending habits. In keeping with UKVI rules, we recommend that students budget £1,023 per month to cover their living costs.

International students who require a Student visa to study in the UK also have to pay the NHS health surcharge of £470 per year of study, plus £235 (any additional period of 6 months or less is charged at the rate of half the annual amount) when applying for a visa. Aberdeen University Part-time Student Fees

Part-time students studying up to 75 credits in any academic year and no more than 45 credits in either half-session may be eligible to apply for the SAAS, Part-time Fee Grant to help towards the cost of tuition fees.

SAAS Part-time Fee Grant Eligibility

To qualify for this funding, you must:

  • have an individual income of £25,000 a year or less
  • be studying part-time Higher Education course(s), Professional Development Award (PDA) or Continuing Professional Development (CPD) at levels 7-10 of the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF)
  • complete between 30-75 SCQF credits per year
  • be studying at a Scottish Institution
  • meet the residence conditions as set out in The Students’ Allowances (Scotland) Regulations 2007
