UJ Online Application Process.

Applicants must possess a South African National Senior Certificate with a degree endorsement to enroll in a South African degree program. For entrance to undergraduate studies, all international applicants who earned their high school diplomas outside of the Republic of South Africa must present a certificate of exemption from the South African Matriculation Board.

The Matriculation Board must receive the supporting documentation listed below at the address listed below;

  • Form M30 (available for download at https://mb.usaf.ac.za, the website of the Matriculation Board)
  • copies of the applicant’s diplomas that have been correctly authenticated by a South African High Commission
  • a public notary in your native country, a consulate, or a trade mission
  • Your passport or birth certificate is properly certified by a South African High Commission, Consulate,
  • Documents translated into sworn English (Documents issued in any Language other than English)

You can submit your application online at www.uj.ac.za by clicking the link to study @UJ, or you can download the application form and mail it or drop it off at the Student Enrolment Center. Hardcopy applicants are required to pay a non-refundable R200 application fee whereas online applicants are excused from paying one.

To allow the application for postgraduate studies to be evaluated, applicants who are enrolled in or have previously attended a university within or outside the Republic of South Africa must submit an academic transcript covering the relevant period.

Typically, annual fee increases range from 5 to 10%. For information on the final costs for the academic year 2025-2026, please get in touch with the university in November.

NOTE: Please take note that the Department of Home Affairs requires all accepted international applicants to show proof of financial availability for the full academic year’s tuition as well as proof that they have paid for a full academic year’s worth of medical insurance administered in South Africa before being granted a study visa.

All international students who are privately (i.e., by themselves, their parents, or their guardians) supported must pay their tuition and housing costs (for on-campus housing) as follows:

  • An upfront payment of 30% of tuition and residence fees must be paid before or at registration.
  • 35% of the tuition and residence fees are to be paid by 30 April.
  • 35% of the tuition and residence fees are to be paid by 31 July.
  • If the entire fee is paid before or at registration, the University will grant a 5% discount.
