We have put up a step-by-step guide to help you through the application process for overseas students so that becoming a UTS student is as simple as possible.
Supporting documents must be submitted with every application to UTS. Depending on the candidate and the sort of study you are applying for, several types of support documents may be needed. The majority of UTS offers will be made available in December Round 2 via UAC if you apply to start at UTS in the Autumn session, which begins in March. After the release of their results in later offer rounds, UTS reserves places to make offers to IB and interstate students.
From March until the start of the term, offers are issued to students starting in the Spring. If you are extended an offer, you will also be notified via email with instructions on how to accept the offer and begin enrolling. If you wish to take a gap year to gain a job or life experience, you may want to think about deferring* your education. After your gap year, you’ll get a new offer directly from UTS for the same course (often in November).
You must reapply through UAC if you want to accept an offer to a different program or if you intend to postpone your studies for longer than a year. Entry only for research program:
- For the available intakes, you may apply at any time of the year by submitting an online application.
Admission to the research program and scholarship:
- By the outlined application closing dates, you must submit your online application.
Scholarship only:
Available only if you have an offer of admission to a UTS research program or are currently enrolled in one: submitting a scholarship application while still a student. By the specified application deadlines shown below, you must submit your application.
Tuition fees- Domestic students
The Australian Government’s Research Training Program (RTP) Fees Offset Scholarship will pay the cost of the tuition for domestic students who have accepted admission to a graduate research degree.
If you receive an RTP Fee Offset Scholarship, you are exempt from paying tuition fees for the maximum amount of time necessary to finish your studies*.
International students
Unless they are recipients of an International Research Training Program (IRTP) scholarship or a UTS International Research scholarship, international higher degree research students are expected to pay tuition (IRS).

Required documents/ uts application deadline 2023-2024
Through the UTS Online Application System, domestic students can submit a direct application to UTS. This system is accessible to students via the UTS Postgraduate Admissions page. To apply directly to UTS, students will require:
- Official academic transcripts or records of study, or proof of completion of studies if this is not shown on the academic record (note: transcripts printed from institution websites will not be accepted).
- Current CV
- Individual Statement (approx. 1 page in length, describing past involvement in course-related activities, your reasons for wanting to undertake a postgraduate course within the Faculty and it should demonstrate your capacity to do so).
- Proof of a name change (if applicable).
- translations of any non-English documents (if applicable).
- If the language of teaching at the undergraduate level was not English, documentation of English ability is required (IELTS results, etc).
- such as a passport or driver’s license with a photo.
The institution prefers that you apply online through Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) (opens an external site) if you do not have all of this information because UAC can obtain your results electronically and follow up on any other application-related difficulties.

Admission requirements/ uts application deadline 2023-2024
A bachelor’s degree from Australia or an equivalent degree from another country is generally required for admission to postgraduate coursework study at UTS. However, for some courses, additional credentials and experience might be taken into account, including:
- graduate diplomas, graduate certificates, or a TAFE diploma
- extensive work history supported by testimonials from previous employers
To qualify for an offer to study at UTS, applicants must also meet the English language competency standards.
